FAQ

Apartment unit sign questions

What size should apartment unit numbers be?

5"×5" and 6"×6" are the most common for corridor-facing unit doors — large enough to read down a hallway, small enough to sit above or beside the door frame. Exterior walk-up units often go larger. We confirm size on your proof.

Do unit signs need braille?

In the US, signs identifying permanent rooms and spaces generally require tactile text and braille under ADA; how this applies to residential unit doors varies by jurisdiction and project type. We flag this during proofing and can produce all unit numbers as ADA tactile signs. See our ADA sign requirements guide.

Can I mix materials in one building?

Yes — a common combination is stainless steel unit numbers with acrylic wayfinding and amenity signs. Everything still ships as one bundle with one design proof.
